Attitude of Gratitude

Time is all too fleeting and I find the deadlines edging closer every day…every hour, even. I don’t have much in the way of words today other than to share with you that I’m working hard to shift my focus from one of stress and overwhelm to one of an “attitude of gratitude” for all the opportunities I have standing before me. One of those opportunities is my growing love and practice of photography. So of course, a few photos for you, too. These are my two favorites from the dreaded flash assignment (photos taken inside, at night, of people, with flash–and no bouncing). Hope you enjoy them. And, I hope you are aware of the gratitude you feel for something in your life today.

    Gratitude. Yes this is a fundamental practice in yoga. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras verse 2.32 the restraints Niyamas are listed as five. 1. purity 2. contentment 3. asceticism 4. study and 5. devotion. How does one practice contentment however? One is as one is in every moment. You just can’t say “I will be contented” and it happens.. but what you can do is practice gratitude for every little thing in your life. This active practice will turn the tide on depression and dispair and leave you feeling contented. OM.

    I find it to be a surprise to look at an image and then focus in on one part rather than the whole. The close up images of the tattoo art really shows this to me. Up close you see the message, from far away you may not see the message in the 2nd image. Perhaps this is a metaphor for us all being so busy. Perhaps if we focus more on the smaller frame rather than the wide angle we would be able to be more grateful for what we see! Just a thought!

    These are wise words and much needed today. Not managing to have much gratitude and overwhelmed by all the stresses. Thanks for the reminder and beautiful photos.

    loving the 2nd picture and I have been loving taking pics around here lately also.
    I am not ready for class yet just training my eye but having fun.
    grateful for the reminder to be grateful…

    oh yes, it’s always good to be reminded of things to be grateful for and yet I also identify with feelings of total overwhelm and stress at times in my life and I have had to sit with notebook and pen and ideas-storm on how to make things better. I hope things improve for you and you ride the tide 🙂

    I am getting really into photography too, I do know what you mean. I am taking a local evening class and enjoying it immensely and can now put my camera on manual settings! :0

    Good luck with it all – creativity has been my saving grace 🙂
