Wishing You the Best

I planned to play more catch up on Reverb10 prompts and my reflections on those for today, but felt pulled in another direction. With Christmas bearing down on many of us this week, and my own holiday travel plans just two days away, I can’t help but be immersed in the swirl of emotions I’m experiencing. I’m awash in both excitement and dread as I anticipate the next week. I know that may be horrible to share–the dread part, anyway–but it’s authentic and true. And I’m betting that there are many of you out there who likely feel the same way about the impending few days and all that they stir up emotionally. There are good things I’m looking forward to as we travel “back home” to share Christmas with our families. But there are other aspects that are tinged with sadness and disappointment, accompanied by stress and anxiety.

So in this next week while I’m away and not keeping up on happenings in the blogosphere and among my lovely online community, I’m wishing you the best. I’m wishing you a peaceful moment, a welcoming smile, a respite from the swirling. I’m wishing you one delightful memory to hold onto from this holiday season. I’m wishing those very same things for myself, too.

and my own holiday plans

Thanks as always for being so honest about what many people feel, but not everyone is brave enough to say. The holidays come with so many pressures and expectations and many of us strive so hard to make them “perfect” that we all we end up doing is making ourselves unhappy. As you know, Tom and I made a decision not to travel and make a fuss this holiday season for that very reason… and yet I still feel myself giving in to feelings of pressure, guilt and stress! How is that possible? Like you, I am going to try to embrace my holiday season for all that it is, and not worry about what it isn’t. And I’m sure copious amounts of red wine drinking will help!

I wish you the same! We decided for some of those same reasons not to travel to see family this year. We are staying home and just having a week to be together. I feel the pullings of guilt for not going but know we are were we need to be for this holiday.

    Cheers to Melissa!~

Love you Meghan! Sometimes family is not tied through blood but true friendship. Thank you for becoming my ‘family’ this year. Take care of you…my thoughts are with you this weekend. Safe travels!
