What We See
As I’ve been recently savoring the sweetness of my life, I’ve become more aware of the importance of where I focus my attention. This isn’t a new revelation for me…I have seen how focusing on my worries and anxieties gives those fires more oxygen and heightens the flame. Yet, I get caught, easily, in the trap that worry will somehow save me from disappointment, prevent my fear from unfolding into truth. I seem to have to learn repeatedly that this is not how life works. You know when you are driving your car, and you start to look at something that captured your attention to your left, and you keep looking over there to see what the heck that is? And then the next thing you know, your car is veering more and more to the left. You know why? Because that is where you are looking!
As I was playing on Pinterest yesterday, I came across this new pin for my Mantra board. I was so happy to be reminded that we find what we are looking for. And that reminded me of all the things I’m NOT looking for and thus, all the things I don’t want to see. Moreover, it reminded me to look for the very things in life that I want…and that by refocusing my attention on what I want in my life, I will be more likely to see those very things.
So instead of looking at the worries and fears, I’m looking for more light, more flare, more bursts of happiness, more connections. I’m looking for new perspectives, new angles, new ideas. And I’m betting I will see them. Because I’m looking.
What are you looking for these days?
