the heat overtook her as she opened the door to walk the dog, memory flashed with reminders that “it’s the humidity.” the thunder rolled in the distance, rain imminent. it would have to be a quick walk, despite the dog’s urging to go farther. the thick air added more weight to the heaviness she’d been carrying in her chest for months. as the clouds rambled above her head, storm thoughts did the same through her mind. but then…then, a spark, a sparkle. the dew collected on the tender threads of a spider web shimmered like diamonds. and in that moment she knew the storm was passing. the spark would enable a flame to burn the heaviness she’d been carrying too long. and soon, she’d be the diamond.
